Lake Baringo is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with nearly 500 species of birds calling the lake home. This includes migratory waterbirds, as well as several species of fish, including the tilapia Oreochromis niloticus baringoensis, which is endemic to the lake.

But Lake Baringo isn’t just for birdwatchers – it’s also home to a wide range of wildlife, including impalas, dik-diks, zebras, Grants gazelles, warthogs, hippos, and crocodiles. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a greater kudu, one of the last remaining populations in Kenya.

Getting There
Lake Baringo is located in the remote west-central region of Kenya, with the nearest town being Kampi ya Samaki. You can access the lake by private transport from Nakuru, or take a guided tour to make the most of your visit.

The best time to visit Lake Baringo is during the dry season, from June to October, when the weather is cooler and the wildlife is more concentrated.
